Our Mission: To create resources that promote the education of Indigenous worldviews, languages and arts for communities and educators in the private and public sectors.
Established in 2012 the Four Salish Winds Society was created by a group of Indigenous elders, academic scholars, artists, and cultural activators.
Four Salish Winds Society is dedicated to creating and sharing Indigenous-informed resources that support education, the arts, cultural studies, language revitalization, and the preservation and sharing of Coast Salish knowledge. Through our work, we bring together Elders, Knowledge Keepers, youth, language learners, educators, academics, artists, and community members to create meaningful opportunities for learning, connection, collaboration, and cultural resurgence.
Our Team
In 2012, Four Salish Winds Society recognized the need to address the gaps that often exist between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews, particularly in understanding the histories, teachings, values, and cultural practices that shape Coast Salish communities. These differences in belief systems, ways of knowing, and relationships with the land, water, and community have sometimes created barriers to meaningful understanding, collaboration, and reconciliation.
Recognizing this need, Four Salish Winds Society began creating resources that provide opportunities for education, connection, and cross-cultural learning. These resources were developed to help bridge understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities by sharing Coast Salish perspectives, stories, artistic practices, language, and teachings in ways that encourage respect and collaboration.
