We are located on central Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada. The traditional / original language here is hul’ q’umi’num.
Thank you to the funding from First Peoples’ Cultural Council we have been able to focus on creating hul’q’umi’num classes. We are happy to share the resources created as a result of this project.
Health and Wellness Rooted in Indigenous World Views
Below are short 1 to 3 minute films with teachings that focus on health and wellness rooted in Indigenous world views. While interviewing Indigenous Elders we captured teachings and created some short films and daily practice cards.
A Prayer With May Sam

May Sam is an Elder from Cowichan Tribes but lives in Sannich on Vancouver Island. In this short film May Sam shares a blessing for each and everyone of our families.
Health and Wellness Daily Practices

We made these cards for language learners. Based in health and wellness we asked elders to share with youth a teaching that they felt was an important daily practice.

We were working with some youth that were interested in medicinal plants so we created some Medicinal Plant cards with the hul’ qumi’num name of the plants. The photos used youth took while they were researching the plants and learning to identify them.
Health and Wellness Animated Cards
As we navigate our health and wellness through COVID we have created a series of animated teachings that with daily practice can help with the pressures we are facing today.
